PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION
Passive fire protection relates to the way the physical building protects people in the event of a fire, without activation. The main rationale behind passive fire protection is to stop the spread of fire and smoke between fire zones and compartments within the building. Stopping the spread of smoke and fire not only limits damage potential of fire and smoke, but also aids evacuation by providing smoke and fire free zones along evacuation routes.
There are many ways to ensure your building meets passive fire protection requirements, but at RTS Contracting, we aim to simplify the process by providing expert advice regarding any works that may need to be conducted.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY BUILDING MEETS PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION STANDARDS?
Any weaknesses or breaches relating to your passive fire protection standards should be identified during a robust Fire Risk Assessment, or Fire Brigade report. Issues should also be identified by your internal PPM programme, usually delivered by your Maintenance/Facilities Operative.
Your Fire Risk Assessment may suggest a Fire Compartmentation Survey to identify any potential compartmentation breaches in loft spaces, false ceilings, floor-ceilings, walls between fire zones, fire doors etc.
HOW CAN RTS CONTRACTING HELP?
RTS Contracting can assist with not only conducting Fire Compartmention Surveys, but also creating a project plan and delivering a schedule of works.
Our team is experienced in working with a variety of differing building types within the Health & Social Care industry, from purpose built care homes, to listed buildings converted into care homes.
We are happy to work from actions identified by 3rd party Fire Risk Assessments and/or Fire Compartmentation Surveys and provide advice around what work is required to bring your building up to a compliant standard.
